I'm about to sign a contract with the Snap-On devil with my blood.

UPDATE: I pull the trigger on it but changed the trims and the color. It's gonna look like this.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Remember the used Snap-On Epiq in white and black that I was offered at a good price? It got sold, BUT the guy told me "Look, wait for 2-3 weeks. I'll have something great for you." and I did. He did not disappoint at all. I get the smallest Epiq in white as pictured brand new and custom to my taste (so I can change the color and the trims before I order it) AND, I get the stainless steel work surface powertop and a full cover free of charge, for the same damn price as the toolbox he wanted to sell me which didn't have shit. I almost can't refuse at all! I got 7 days to think about it.

The issue that I have is with snap-on credit. Not that I wasn't accepted, au contraire they revealed that my credit score was much better than when I first started with them. But THIS IS WHERE he does his money and having about 25% interest on the whole price I got is not fun even though the payments are really easy on 4 yrs. I can snowball the payments, finish earlier and get less interest in the end which would be my solution or take it for 2 yrs which will go up to 101$ per week. It's quite manageable for me and i'll know it's gonna be done in 2 yrs like my original plan and not 4 yrs (63$/week) as he wanted it to be to get more money out of this.

The other issue, is that this was NOT planned at all. I was supposed to concentrate all my money on the 2006 MX5 Limited Edition I wanted in the end. But then I called my insurance and it would go up from about 420$ to 801$ per year. Kinda high a bit for my taste but ok...Without a down payment, I would pay about 81$ per week for 2 yrs on the car. Still not so bad. Then I thought about premium gas, the license plate that I gotta pay, the mods and the cars I'm selling. The Rx7 got tons of interested people and the Miata also but it attracted low ballers on it's case., so I might keep it after all.

The newest plan I can think of is keep the Miata, continue to fix it as originally intended, get the toolbox and pay it in 4 yrs, while snowballing the payments with as much money as I can and clear it in about 2 yrs, after the toolbox is payed I wait for a lower mileage 2006 Mx5 Limited Edition to show up (prices with probably go way down) and pull the trigger since my credit will be improved by then if everything goes well. Yeah....sounds like a good plan right?

Wait is my math wrong or are you about to spend over 10,000 dollars on an empty tool box? Is it really worth that, I mean I understand having top of the line tools, but do they really need an elite mansion to sleep in?

holy crap, 400+ a month for 2 years for a empty tool box, that's about 10,000$

wow you can buy 2 used miatas for that price..

don't see how the 400$+ per year would bother you, if you are thinking of a 10,000$ empty tool box.

I have magic beans for sale, you interested?

There's a trick with this. Right before you sign the papers, you call the bank and get a loan with lower interest. You sign the papers. Do the first payment normally, then call Snap On credit and say that you wanna fully pay the toolbox. They gonna readjust the interest which will turn into peanuts and bam. You're financing your toolbox at a low interest rate.

The trick is not to take out loans for shit like toolboxes

What about something like this

http://www.elitetoolboxes.com/extremetools72…

Stainless steel top, roller drawers, seems like the quality is on par but at a much less price. Only you know if that Snap-On box is worth it. It's easy for me to say it's crazy because I'm not in your line of work. Good Luck, hopefully everything works out well for you. A bit of history on this. I have a friend who is a tech, and the Snap-On guy really bent him over. After a year working at a fancy Foreign car specialty shop, over half his paycheck was going to the Snap-On guy. My friend is a really great guy but he is (man I hate to say anything negative about him) He doesn't always think things through and can be taken advantage of easily. So because of this I am always suspect of the Snap-On man.

I have lust in my heart for a big bad Snap-On box. I get it.

However, buying one brand new from the Snap-On man on a Snap-On credit card is a terrible idea, financially. They depreciate faster than an off-lease 7 series. You'll be underwater on the box before it ever makes it across the 49th parallel (they're made in Canada) and for that money, there's not even any tools in it.

I don't know where you live, but in the big cities in Texas the local lists of Craig have several big bad Snap-On boxes available on any given day, usually at about 40 cents on the dollar. If you can pay yourself $100/week instead of the Snap-On man, you can probably have a box 2x the size in a year and you'll be free and clear. You won't get to custom order it, but you'll be able to afford a respray in any color you like, including colors that Snap-On doesn't make :)

I was taken advantage by the snap-on guy also for the first toolbox. This one, not so much. I checked with people who had an Epiq about the prices. I got much more stuff for less than they payed because I pressured the guy. Then I checked with other Snap-On vendors from other areas if they could get me a better deal. They can't. Only 1/10th of my weekly paychecks will pay it so it's really not bad. And also, I'm not the kind of guy that likes to save up...up until recently. So asking me to save over 3000$ was hard. At the same time, I'm the kind of guy that feels that it's a one shot deal all the time. That would be my negative point.

If it was that easy. But where I am, I have no choice to get through the Snap-On vendor. And I won't lie, the Epiq's design got me hard badly to the point that the others don't exist anymore. That's mostly why I took it.

Yes, indeed. I am in NM so you have to come here. But I have a garage with almost every tool you might need, except a tool that makes me want to do drum brakes on a Ford F-150.

How much is the box? Perhaps can you get a credit card with a lower interest rate. I have a friend with similar expensive taste in tool boxes but his beast he put on a credit card fixed at like 7 or 8%. Still high but helluva lot better than 25%

That's the trick we do at work. We enjoy freebies with Snap-On credit then make a 180 on them after the first payment with a bank loan or like you said, a credit card with lower interest.
